Magdalena Restaurant

Taste, taste, taste.

Always the top priority for our Head Chef Dominik Hartmann. Named “Discovery of the Year 2021” and “Rising Star of 2023 and 2025” by Gault Millau, his cooking is uncompromising, bold, and modern. The focus is on vegetables—and all the possibilities these often-overlooked ingredients have to offer.

Of course, the perfect drink is an essential part of the overall experience—whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic—and can be added or omitted for each course. We’ll go to any length to ensure the perfect pairing. That’s why we offer not only a diverse wine selection tailored to the menu, but also elaborately crafted non-alcoholic beverages that are more than just substitutes for champagne, wine, and the like. The wine list is packed with magnificent wines, ranging from classics to natural wines—some young and fresh, others beautifully aged. Upon request, our sommelier Benny will be happy to send you our wine list in advance. –> sommelier@restaurant-magdalena.ch

Magdalena Restaurant in Mythenstein

History

Behind the light-filled new building with its picturesque view of the Schwyz valley basin lies 700 years of history: the house was built in 1326—though at that time it stood in Schwyz. Around the year 1600, it was dismantled and rebuilt exactly as it was in Rickenbach, across from the Magdalena Chapel. An enameled sign at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich attests that the house was already operating as the “Wirtshaus zur Magdalena” as early as 1790. The current new building was completed in 2020, though the charred wood at the entrance and inside still comes from the original structure and carries 700 years of history within it.

Head Chef and Co-Owner

Dominik Hartmann

Dominik grew up in Rickenbach. In 2020, he opened the restaurant Magdalena together with Adriana Hartmann and Marco Appert—who are also locals. Five months later, at the age of 28, Dominik was awarded two Michelin stars right away, followed by the green star for sustainability and 18 Gault Millau points.
